Why CPA Celebrates Lab Week
People are familiar with doctors, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, physical therapists and medical assistants, but most are unfamiliar with the medical laboratory profession. For the most part, lab professionals work behind the scenes, except phlebotomists. The much appreciated work of lab technicians, cytotechnologists, histologic technicians, histotechnologists and pathology assistants is just not well known or publicized.
April is the time of year we get to celebrate and acknowledge our own during Medical Laboratory Professionals Week...or Lab Week as we like to call it! Lab Week was celebrated April 22-28 at Clinical Pathology Associates this year. This was a time when we played games, won prizes, and ate really good food.
Lab Week has been celebrated since 1975 when it was first organized by the American Society for Medical Technology, now called the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS).
Every day, our pathologists and staff at CPA work in various teams with clinical colleagues to help diagnose and manage treatments of patients seen in both of our hospitals in Abilene. Countless hours have been spent by our pathologists, pathologist assistants, department managers, lab technologists/technicians, and support staff to create testing policies, processes, procedures, and simulations to help CPA run successfully.
These are some of the reasons why we celebrated Lab Week, 2018
